John Short graduated in illustration from Edinburgh College of Art and received an MA in Illustration from the Royal College of Art, London. He won the Royal College of Art Drawing Prize, The Berger Colour Prize and The Arnotts Portrait Award. His illustrations have appeared in many publications including Vogue, Harpers and Queen, The Irish Times, The Sunday Independent, The Guardian, and The Sunday Times. He has also illustrated children’s books for Random House and Walker Books.
He is well known for his watercolour portraits which have been exhibited regularly in the Royal Hibernian Academy Summer Exhibition since 2000. These commissions are in many private collections in Ireland, UK, USA and France. John has had two solo exhibitions in Dublin and has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and in Edinburgh and London.
He is a Senior Lecturer in drawing and illustration in the Faculty of Applied Arts at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He lives with his wife and two children in Sandycove, County Dublin.
